I’ve always enjoyed a bit of music mixed in with my horror. Joe Hill brushes it in at just the right spots for me. I think the strongest part of this book for me was his characterization of a couple of the characters. It was strong, deep, and genuine. I was engrossed in the story. The ending wrapped up perhaps a little quickly for me, but I think maybe I just wanted more. I cried. In reading his notes at the end, I see that he encountered a book that, if he’d read before the second draft, might have changed the entire book. I will be forever curious about that.
